CORE CURRICULUM is the base of our mini residencies, led by Madison Falconer including workshops Free-Fail, Story-ographic Remix, Researching Habits and Environment, Improvisation and Instant Composition, Highway Models, and more. Our CORE CURRICULUM is organized within Falco’s FOUR-C Framework; Consider, Consult, Create & Coordinate as a foundational infrastructure for all of the Woodworks Connect add ons.

Classical & Contemporary Composition examines the evolution of choreographic principles in ballet and contemporary dance through both movement exploration and research. Participants will engage in the study of classical ballet composition, analyzing form, musicality, and structure, while also investigating contemporary methods that challenge traditional frameworks. Through discussion, movement exercises, and historical and theoretical research, dancers will gain insight into how ballet and contemporary dance inform and reshape each other, developing tools to craft their own choreographic voice with an informed perspective.

College Prep provides aspiring dance and arts students with essential tools for navigating the college application process. Covering auditions, portfolios, essays, and program selection, this workshop offers expert guidance to help students confidently take their next steps in higher education.

Dance for Camera explores the intersection of movement and film, guiding participants through the fundamentals of choreographing for the lens. Led by experienced dance filmmakers, this hands-on session covers framing, perspective, and storytelling, equipping artists with tools to translate live performance into cinematic expression.

EMBODIED SOUND led by Michael Naffier is designed to give dancers the skills to thoughtfully engage with music by connecting key concepts found in both music and dance. Through a series of exercises, games, and real-time exploration, students learn tools and strategies to fully utilize music as a powerful tool for expression.

Floorwork & Momentum focuses on mastering fluid transitions, weight shifts, and harnessing the power of gravity to create seamless, dynamic movement. Participants will explore techniques for efficient floorwork, learning how to move effortlessly between levels while maintaining control and flow. Emphasizing the use of momentum, this workshop will help dancers understand how to incorporate gravity into their movement, enhancing physical expression and energy efficiency both on and off the floor.

HEALTHY MIND & BODY led by Richa Krishna, with 500hr yoga teacher training from Rishikesh Yogpeeth, the origin place of yoga in India, and Madison Falconer, with training from University of Southern California (USC), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and experience coaching at the LA Sports Complex for sports specific training, strengthening, and injury prevention care. This program combines prehab and recovery tools and practices through Yoga and Conditioning for Dancers to equip dancer's body and mind for sustainability and longevity in their career.

The House Dance Workshops delve into the roots and rhythms of house dance, focusing on footwork, grooves, and musicality. Participants will explore the foundational movements of the style, such as jacking, lofting, and stomping, while learning how to connect to the music’s beat and flow. This workshop emphasizes self-expression, improvisation, and the history of house dance, encouraging dancers to develop their unique voice within the style while cultivating an understanding of the culture and energy that drive it.

Partnering Techniques with Jenna Meilman and Ryan Vyskocil focuses on the fundamentals of weight sharing, trust, and communication in dance. Participants will explore how to give and receive weight, find stability in motion, and develop a deeper awareness of their partner through guided exercises. Emphasizing connection and adaptability, this workshop provides dancers with the tools to create seamless, dynamic partnering with confidence.

Ballet Workshop at WOODWORKS Connect offers dancers a space to refine technique, artistry, and musicality through classical ballet training. Rooted in both tradition and contemporary exploration, this class focuses on alignment, strength, and dynamic movement quality. Participants will engage with ballet fundamentals while also discussing its evolution and adaptability within today’s dance landscape. Whether reinforcing a strong technical foundation or discovering new ways to apply ballet principles, this workshop supports dancers in deepening their understanding and expression within the form.

At the heart of every WOODWORKS Residency is our Core Curriculum, designed to support artists in their creative research while fostering collaboration and community. This curriculum follows the Four-C Framework—Consider, Consult, Create, and Coordinate—a guiding structure that encourages deep inquiry, reflection, playful exploration, and intentional composition.
Our Mini-Residencies offer an adaptable experience, personalized through our Add-On Series. Each add-on is a curated set of workshops taught by one of the professional Woodworks Artists in Residence, providing specialized tools, techniques, and perspectives that enhance the residency experience. Whether focusing on choreographic methodologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, or movement research, these add-ons allow each residency to be uniquely tailored to the needs and interests of the participants.
Through this flexible and immersive approach, WOODWORKS Connect empowers artists to engage deeply with their practice while being part of a supportive and dynamic creative ecosystem.
